DOGRA COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ORGANIZED AN EXTENSION LECTURE ON “GENDER EQUALITY TODAY FOR A SUSTAINABLE TOMORROW”

Dogra College of Education in collaboration with Department of Life-Long Learning, University of Jammu organized an extension lecture on the theme “GENDER EQUALITY TODAY FOR A SUSTAINABLE TOMORROW” on the eve of “International Women’s Day” on 08th of March, 2022 in the Conference Hall of Dogra College of Education wherein, 80 students and faculty were present on the said occasion.
Programme started with the welcome address given by Ms. Gagandeep Kour, Lecturer in English, Dogra college of Education. Dr. Kavita Suri, Director Department of Life Long Learning university of jammu was the expert speaker on the Gender Issues Dr. Kavita Suri said that gender equality is the need of the hour and we all must start it from our homes. She discussed in detail the concept of sex and gender issues with videos, and real life examples from the society.
Dr. Savita Nayyar, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Jammu was the resource person. In her address she said that the need for empowering and giving more respect to women for progress and prosperity of the society is must. She also said that livelihoods were important components for women and there was a need to provide a source of livelihood to the women so that they could have a better life. She added that the women must be provided skilled training for self-reliance through tailoring, weaving and handicraft work, service sector work, preferably the skill crafts.
In the concluding remarks, Dr. Shefali Sharma IQAC Coordinator Dogra College of Education appreciated the viewpoints shared by the guest speaker and resource person and stated that when power is given to women, they will be able to change the society in a harmonious manner with dignity and integrity.
Dr. Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal Dogra College of Education, faculty members and teacher trainees of Sem. I & III were present. A formal vote of thanks was given by Ms. PriyankaBendral Lecturer in Commerce Dogra College of Education who thanked the esteemed speakers for presenting the thought provoking lecture. The programme was ended with National Anthem.
