BA DEPARTMENT OF DOGRA DEGREE COLLEGE ORGANIZED A HISTORICAL VISIT

BA Department of Dogra Degree College organized a historical visit at Dogra Art Museum and Amar Mahal Museum for its students. A group of 80 students accompanied by their teacher mentors Ms. Kanchan Dubey, Ms. Anju , Mr. Balwant Singh, Ms. Aditi Khajuria, Ms Shikha Gupta & Ms Priya Kundal. Dogra Art Museum, Jammu previously known as Dogra Art Gallery with a special collection of Basohli paintings was inaugurated by Dr. Rajender Prasad, His Excellency the President of India at Gandhi Bhawan, Jammu. Dogra Art Museum, Jammu the abode of treasure trove of Dogra Cultural heritage. The museum is known world over for its collection of miniature paintings especially paintings from Basohali. The other collections of this museum are Terracotta heads from Akhnoor. Sculptures, Numismatics, Manuscripts, Dogra Costumes, Jewellery, Arms and Armoury, Metal Objects and Decorative Art. The intricately decorated marble jharokhas with inlay work of semi precious stones in the marble hall further embellishes the charisma of the museum collection. The students showed keen interest in knowing about the museum.

The students were taken to Amar Mahal, which is a palace in Jammu, in the Indian erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in India, which has now been converted into a Museum. It was built in the nineteenth century for Raja Amar Singh, a Dogra king by a French architect on the lines of a French Chateau. It has many exhibits including a golden throne weighing 120 kg, Pahari miniature and Kangra miniature paintings, a library of 25,000 antique books and many rare art collections. The guide there interacted with the students and made them familiar with the history of the palace and the Dogra dynasty. The glory of the heritage site was so inspirational that each and every student felt proud and mesmerized. It was a good learning experience for the faculty and the students who were a part of this visit.
