Student Volunteers of the college distribute hand made paper and cloth bags to mark the International Plastic bag Free day

Dogra Degree College Bari Brahmana, Jammu organized a signature campaign- “ Say No to Single Use Plastic” to mark International Plastic Bag free day which is celebrated on 03 July every year . The Theme of the campaign Was “ Zero Bag - Zero waste ”. The motive behind the campaign was to make people aware about the harmful effects of Plastic on Environment, as majority of these plastics find their way into landfills and either cannot be, or are not, recycled.Plastic forks and spoons that come along with food through online food delivery platforms; earbuds with plastic stems; thermocol sheets that are used widely in decorations – these are some of the many single use plastics (SUPs) that have been banned by the Union government. The ban comes into effect from July 1, with the hope to enforce Prime Minister’s call to phase out SUPs by year end.

A group of 40 students divided themselves in sub-groups of 10 each and undertook a signature campaign wherein they briefed the people in and around Bari brahmana , Main Chowk Area , houses around college premises ( Rajeev Colony ). Students’ hand-made paper bags and cloth bags were distributed among the shopkeepers and vendors along with the pamphlets exhibiting the harmful after effects of plastic along with the pledge to do away with use of plastic .

The students also visited the Municipal Corporation Office, Bari Brahamana to carry forward with their signature campaign on “ say No to Single Use plastic”. The Executive Officer , Municipal Corporation , Bari Brahmana Mr J.R Bhagat appreciated the efforts of the College and students for taking the initiative and in his interaction shared to carry forward the campaign in association with the Municipal Corporation from 4th July, 2022 onwards.

The students under the supervision of their mentors Ms. Palak Gupta , Ms Amanpreet kour, Mr. Balwant Parihar carried out the campaign successfully . They began their campaign from the college premises itself wherein they met the office bearers of Dogra Group of Colleges and took pledge to make the campus Plastic-free. The campaigners were flagged off by Kr. Samardev Singh Charak Secretary Dogra Educational Trust , Dr. Darshana Sharma Director DGC and CD and Ms. Bela Thakur Principal Dogra Degree College.


The participating students carried out the social outreach activity with full enthusiasm and support from Faculty in Environmental studies, NSS Programme Officer DDC and Caretaker Officer NCC Unit DDC.
