Household Survey Conducted in Adopted Village Smailpur, Bari Brahmana Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Participating Institute {PI} Dogra Degree College

The UBA Unit of Dogra Degree College inaugurated its five days Household survey in the College on 23rd of April 2023 under the guidance of Ms. Bela Thakur, Principal, Dogra Degree College and under the supervision of Mr. Balwant Singh UBA PI Coordinator, Dogra Degree College. The Principal in her inaugural address enlightened the UBA Volunteers regarding the importance of survey. She shared some valuable thoughts and motivated them to take active participation in this survey.

Mr. Balwant Singh UBA Coordinator familiarised students about Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. He also provided knowledge on UBA household survey. UBA volunteers quickly began their preparations for the next day in discussion of first meeting. Task were listed and divided among the volunteers by the coordinator.

A meeting was held in adopted village Smailpur with the Sarpanch. Mr. Balwant Singh and the Panch members on 23rd of March, 2023. The meeting was held for the village, household level survey and collection of data. The survey form was given to the Sarpanch of the village as a sample and explained to the Panchayat member. The UBA Coordinator of Dogra Degree College briefed the Sarpanch and Panchayat members regarding the village level survey data filling. UBA Coordinator also suggested that the villagers can also suggest any requirement for their village so that it can be undertaken under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan activity.

UBA Unit of Dogra Degree College on the second day that is 24th of March 2023 conducted a baseline household survey in adopted village Smailpur, Bari Brahmana, Samba made 4 groups comprising of 10 students in each group. As instructed by the PI coordinator UBA unit DDC, all the volunteers systematically dispersed in two wards (ward number 2 and ward number 3) as per plan. The survey team of DDC was given full support by the Village Sarpanch, Mr. Balwant Singh and by the ward members Mr. Raj Singh and Ms. Reeta who shared the information of the total houses to be surveyed and deputed an assistant for carrying out the task smoothly.

Volunteers went to houses in these wards and gathered information like general household information, waste collection system, family member information, migration status, information about government schemes for the villagers, source of water, source of energy and power, major problems in village agriculture inputs, landholding information etc.

On the third day i.e., 27th of March, the volunteers were given wards no. 1 and 5. The volunteers were quite energetic for the activity, they were all ready to collect as much information as they could for the welfare of the village. Due to the second day’s chores done by the volunteers the rest of village got aware about the survey due to which now cooperation between villagers and volunteers became more efficient.

The volunteers observed while collecting data that plenty of villagers were not enrolled or had reaped benefits of any of government schemes like PM Jan Dhanyojana, Sukanya Samridhi Yojana, Mudra Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Fasal Bima Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Janani Suraksha Yojana, Kaushal Vikas Yojana, etc.

On the fourth day i.e., 28th of March the volunteers were given ward number 4 and 6. They all scattered like other days and met with different family and collected the household information. Volunteers found some houses were closed in these wards and a few which at first resisted but later shared the information with the volunteers.

On the fifth day that is 29th of March volunteers were granted ward number 7 which is located nearby Toll Plaza Bari Brahmana Samba. Volunteers were well prepared to gain information and to spread awareness which was another exciting experience for the them. Volunteers observed and found in this ward people with avoidant behaviour, feeling of inadequacy and lack of social interaction. Volunteers also successfully conducted household survey in this ward. The survey team of DDC was given full support by the ward panch Mr. Rasheed Ahmed. By end of each day volunteers got refreshment from UBA Unit DDC which gave the volunteers motivation to do better for next day.

Kr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary Dogra Educational Trust, appreciated the efforts of the whole Survey team under the supervision of UBA Coordinator, Dogra Degree College for successfully completing the survey. The survey was successfully completed with full cooperation of village Sarpanch Sh. Balwant Singh of Smailpur panchayat along with Sh. Vikas Chalotra, Panch ward no 1,Smt.Reeta, Panch ward no 2, Sh. Raj Singh, Panch ward no 3, Sh. Barinder Singh, Panch ward no 4, Smt Madhvi Gupta, Panch ward no 5, Mohd Rasheed Ahmed, Panch ward no 6, Sh Preetam Singh Panch ward no 7.
